Three years ago, Bice was perfectly happy. He was working in a guitar shop in Birmingham, Ala., and scrambling for every gig he could find, whether it meant playing acoustic shows in a cafe or club shows with his longtime band, SugarMoney. He was surrounded by music day and night, and he figured that was about all a man could ask for in life.
